ISLAMABAD: Ghulam Rasool Pakistani has emerged as an example of citizen-led environmental action after planting and distributing more than 2.5 million saplings as part of his efforts to promote a greener Pakistan.
His work goes beyond planting trees. He is also working to encourage people to understand the importance of trees and take practical steps to protect the environment in their own communities.
Ghulam Rasool believes that if every person plants and cares for at least one tree or sapling around their home, street or neighbourhood, communities can gradually become greener, healthier and more attractive.
As part of his latest initiative, he is encouraging people to plant grapevines in homes and streets. The idea is to increase greenery while also providing families with locally grown fruit.
Plantation can provide important environmental benefits, including shade, improved local air quality, habitat for wildlife and greater resilience to rising temperatures. However, the long-term benefits depend on proper care and survival of newly planted trees.
Ghulam Rasool’s efforts highlight the potential of individual citizens to contribute to environmental protection without waiting solely for government-led campaigns.
His message is simple: plant a tree, protect it and encourage others to do the same.
For Pakistan, where climate change, rising temperatures, air pollution and environmental degradation are growing concerns, sustained community participation in plantation and tree care can become an important part of building greener and more resilient communities.
