ISLAMABAD: The Global Front for Biodiversity organised the Pakistan Youth Climate Roundtable at the National Incubation Center for Aerospace Technologies (NICAT), Islamabad, providing young people with a platform to discuss climate change, biodiversity conservation and global environmental policy.
The roundtable aimed to encourage meaningful dialogue among young people and strengthen their participation in climate and biodiversity discussions at national and international levels.
Environmental experts Sher Shah Khan, Maria Abbasi and Amina Jabeen participated as speakers.
Sher Shah Khan discussed youth climate action and the importance of effective participation by young people in global climate negotiations in the context of UNFCCC COP31 in Türkiye.
Maria Abbasi highlighted the upcoming UN CBD COP17 in Armenia, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the importance of translating global biodiversity commitments into practical action at the local level in Pakistan.
Amina Jabeen spoke about the collective role of young people in building a sustainable future and encouraged greater youth engagement in environmental action.
During the roundtable, participants worked in groups to develop practical policy recommendations for COP31 and CBD COP17. The exercise provided young people an opportunity to discuss environmental challenges and translate their ideas into proposed policy actions.
Global Front for Biodiversity CEO Qamar Elahi and Vice President Ahmed Assal said young people were not only future leaders but also effective environmental partners today. They said platforms such as the youth roundtable could help bring young people’s ideas into national and global environmental discussions.
At the conclusion, participants finalised joint recommendations, while the Global Front for Biodiversity reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people to contribute to climate action, biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
The roundtable highlighted the growing importance of meaningful youth participation in environmental decision-making and the need to connect global climate and biodiversity goals with practical action in local communities.
