Pakistan Railways launches longest goods train in history

Pakistan Railways has unveiled the longest freight train in its history, marking a major advance in the country’s rail transport sector. Spanning 2,500 feet and containing 50 bogies, this freight train heralds a new era of efficiency and capacity in freight transportation.

Powered by the formidable GEU 40 super engine, the longest and heaviest freight train in the department’s history embarked on its inaugural journey from Karachi loaded with over 3,000 tonnes of goods destined for Kotri. It reached a maximum speed of 60 km/h and an average speed of 38 km/h.

The sheer size of this truck’s capacity is astounding as it is capable of carrying the goods of more than 94 22-wheel trucks. This device not only increases the efficiency of cargo transport but also reduces the burden on road transport, possibly mitigating environmental pollution.

Utilizing the extensive reach and infrastructure of Pakistan Railways, this innovative freight train underscores the potential of rail transport as a sustainable and cost-effective solution for moving goods across the country.
