Pakistan Navy demonstrates combat readiness in North Arabian Sea exercise

Pakistan Navy exercise in the North Arabian Sea demonstrating missile defence, loitering munitions, and unmanned surface vessel capabilities.

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Navy on January 10 conducted a comprehensive naval exercise in the North Arabian Sea, demonstrating its operational readiness and combat preparedness amid evolving maritime security challenges, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The exercise showcased both conventional and unmanned warfare capabilities, highlighting the navy’s ability to counter aerial and surface threats and to operate advanced autonomous platforms. The drills underscored the importance of integrated air defence and precision strike systems in modern naval warfare.

Live missile firing validates air defence capability

As part of the exercise, the Pakistan Navy successfully conducted a live firing of the LY-80(N) Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) from a Vertical Launching System at extended range. The missile accurately engaged and neutralized an aerial target, validating the long-range effectiveness of the navy’s modern air defence systems.

Officials said the successful test reflected the navy’s capability to protect maritime assets against aerial threats in a contested operational environment.

Precision strikes and unmanned systems showcased

The exercise also included the successful engagement of surface targets using Loitering Munition (LM), demonstrating precision strike capability against maritime threats. According to ISPR, the LM accurately destroyed designated targets, reflecting its effectiveness in contemporary naval operations.

In addition, open-sea trials of an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) were carried out successfully. The trials confirmed the platform’s high-speed performance, maneuverability, precision navigation, and resilience in challenging weather conditions. The USV is designed to provide a low-risk, high-impact operational option with stealth and interceptor-style capabilities.

Senior leadership observes exercise

The exercise was witnessed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet, who observed the employment of advanced naval systems during multiple operational scenarios.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf commended officers and personnel for their professionalism and operational competence. He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s resolve to ensure the seaward defence of the country and to safeguard national maritime interests under all circumstances.
