Pakistan Marks Resilience Day with Focus on Inclusive Disaster Preparedness

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing 8th October Resilience Day to remember the strength and courage shown by communities affected by disasters and to renew the commitment to building a safer and more resilient country.

The day also honours those affected by the devastating earthquake of October 8, 2005, while highlighting the importance of preparedness, risk reduction and stronger community resilience.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), this year’s observance places special emphasis on the inclusion of persons with disabilities as equal participants in disaster preparedness, response and resilience efforts.

Inclusive disaster risk reduction requires ensuring that people with disabilities are involved in planning and preparedness and have access to timely information, emergency services and appropriate support during disasters.

Pakistan remains vulnerable to a range of natural hazards, including earthquakes, floods, landslides and extreme weather events. Strengthening preparedness at community and institutional levels can help reduce risks and protect lives and livelihoods.

Resilience Day serves as a reminder that disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility involving government institutions, communities, civil society and individuals.

The message for this year’s observance is clear: Stronger Today, Safer Tomorrow.
