The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) will participate in the sixth edition of the Lahore Science Mela (LSM), continuing its mission to promote scientific curiosity and public engagement. Organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS), the two-day event will take place this weekend at Crescent Model Higher Secondary School.

PAEC spokesperson Dr. Rashid Mehmood invited families, especially those in Lahore, to attend the Mela and explore its wide range of exhibits. “Promoting scientific thought and encouraging curiosity in youth is a joint responsibility,” he said. He added that the event offers valuable learning opportunities for people of all ages.

PAEC to Highlight National and Global Contributions

This year, PAEC will present interactive displays that showcase its work in energy production, mineral exploration, agriculture, and healthcare. One of the key features will highlight Pakistan’s collaboration with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. This exhibit reflects the country’s growing role in global scientific research.

Dr. Mehmood emphasized that the Mela welcomes everyone—not just students or children. “This is an opportunity to ignite curiosity and promote a love for scientific discovery,” he said. PAEC’s continued involvement shows its long-standing commitment to science outreach and education.

Lahore Science Mela Continues to Inspire

Launched in 2017, the Lahore Science Mela has become one of Pakistan’s leading public science events. Except for pandemic-related disruptions, it has taken place annually. Last year’s edition drew more than 100,000 visitors, and organizers expect a similar turnout this weekend.

The 2025 Mela will feature a diverse lineup of science and technology exhibitors. Visitors can enjoy planetarium shows, laser demonstrations, interactive workshops, and auditorium talks by leading scientists and educators. Entry is free and open to all.

PAEC Helps Build a Culture of Curiosity Through Public Science Engagement

Dr. Muhammad Sabieh Anwar, General Secretary of KSS and founder of the Mela, said the event aims to foster a culture of science in Pakistan. He believes making science accessible and engaging is key to building public trust. PAEC’s participation, he noted, reflects the importance of institutional support in this effort.

As Pakistan continues to invest in science and technology, events like the Lahore Science Mela play a vital role. They help bridge the gap between research institutions and the public—bringing science out of the lab and into everyday life.
