In a move that could disrupt fuel availability in some key areas, the Oil Tanker Owners Association has announced the suspension of petrol and diesel supplies with effect from Tuesday.
This decision was taken in response to the union’s allegations of reducing the oil quota allocated by Antamiya.
The affected areas include Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, where consumers may face difficulties in accessing petroleum products. In addition, the association’s statement indicated that supplies to all airports in the country have been suspended.
The union said it would suspend supplies until demands are met. In particular, efforts to engage with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) officials and Islamabad’s Deputy Prime Minister were unsuccessful.
The core of their grievances is the problem of meeting demand in the scaled-down system that the union claims must be met immediately. They claim that the district administration and its employees violated the terms of the contract signed on February 20.
