OGDCL reports new oil and gas discoveries in KP and Sindh

ISLAMABAD — Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has reported fresh oil and gas discoveries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, strengthening Pakistan’s domestic energy resource base.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, OGDCL confirmed a discovery at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well in the Nashpa Block, Kohat district. Testing through a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04) recorded oil production of 225 barrels per day (BOPD) and gas flow of 1.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

The well, spudded on December 30, 2024, was drilled to a depth of 5,170 metres, targeting multiple geological formations including Lumshiwal, Kingriali, Datta and Samana Suk. OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65 percent working interest, alongside Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30 percent) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (5 percent carried interest).

Sindh discovery adds momentum

The KP discovery follows another announcement a day earlier at the Dars West-3 well in Tando Allah Yar, Sindh.

At Dars West-3, OGDCL reported gas production of 9.70 MMSCFD along with 580 barrels per day of condensate from the Lower Goru C-Sand reservoir. The well was drilled to 2,100 metres and recorded a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,725 psi, indicating strong reservoir performance.

Pipeline work is underway to connect Dars West-3 to the KPD-TAY processing plant. Upon completion, the processed gas will be injected into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network to support national supply.

Boost to domestic energy output

OGDCL said the discoveries are expected to contribute to narrowing the country’s energy supply-demand gap by enhancing indigenous hydrocarbon production.

The company added that the findings reinforce the exploration potential of Pakistan’s onshore basins and support ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on imported fuels through local resource development.

Industry analysts note that sustained exploration activity and timely development of new wells will remain critical in addressing Pakistan’s growing energy needs.
