The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned YouTuber Samay Raina for the second time regarding the “obscene question” controversy on his YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Following the uproar over comedian Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial question on the show, an investigation is underway.
Samay Raina, currently in the U.S., has informed authorities that he will return on March 17 and respond to the summons.
The controversy began when, during India’s Got Latent, Ranveer Allahbadia asked an opponent an extremely inappropriate question about their parents. The question went viral on social media, sparking severe backlash.
Later, Ranveer apologized in a video, calling it a “mistake,” but the dispute persisted. In response, Samay Raina removed all episodes of the show from YouTube, pledging full cooperation with the investigation.
Mumbai Police has recorded statements from seven individuals, including social media influencer Apoorva Makija. Ranveer Allahbadia is also expected to appear before the authorities in the coming days.
The Maharashtra Cyber Department has summoned over 40 individuals, including show participants and judges. Cases have been registered against Ranveer Allahbadia and four others, with a Mumbai-based team actively investigating the matter.
The controversy has reached the Indian Parliament, where Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mahaske called for legislation to regulate social media.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that while he had not seen the controversial clip, he warned against crossing the limits of free speech. “Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, but that freedom ends when it infringes upon others. Our society has certain norms, and violating them is unacceptable. Action should be taken,” he said.
Additionally, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued summons to Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makija, Jaspreet Singh, Ashish Chanchlani, and the show’s producers, Tushar Pujari and Saurabh Batra, ordering them to appear in New Delhi on February 17.
