Energy Minister Owais Leghari played down concerns over the solar grid metering policy and said there would be no changes to the existing framework.
He was responding to a notice raised by Owais Leghari in the Senate presided over by Sherry Rehman.
The minister said there was no discussion or decision to shut down the solar metering system in any way. In fact, he said, the size of the solar grid has increased significantly in the last five to six years.
He attributed this development to a significant decrease in the cost of solar panels in Pakistan, making renewable energy more affordable for residents.
Leghari said the government is actively implementing reforms in the electricity sector, including an agreement between solar power and metering and Nepra (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority).
This partnership ensures that buying and selling energy is done on the basis of a contract, simplifying the process.
The minister welcomed the investment in the solar sector and said that the current net metering policy has not changed. He assured the Senate that all future changes to the policy will be made transparent by informing stakeholders.
