RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed nine khwarij in two separate intelligence-based operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 19, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.
Operation conducted in Dera Ismail Khan
ISPR said the first operation was carried out in Dera Ismail Khan district following reports about the presence of khwarij in the area. During the operation, security forces engaged the suspected location, resulting in a gunfight in which four khwarij were killed.
Second operation in Bannu district
A separate intelligence-based operation was conducted in Bannu district. According to the statement, security forces engaged another group of khwarij during an exchange of fire, killing five individuals.
Weapons recovered from killed khwarij
ISPR said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the Indian-sponsored terrorists. The military described them as being involved in attacks on security forces, law enforcement agencies, and the targeted killing of civilians.
Search operations continue in affected areas
The statement added that sanitisation operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas to locate and eliminate any remaining suspects. Security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue counterterrorism efforts, ISPR said.
