A 500-year-old wooden shoe has been discovered during the construction of an underground waste container in Alkmaar, a city in the Netherlands.
According to international media reports, the Netherlands is famous worldwide for its wooden shoes. Recently, during construction work in Alkmaar, located 30 kilometers from Amsterdam, an ancient wooden shoe was uncovered. This rare discovery highlights how widely wooden shoes were used in earlier times.
Archaeologist Silke Lang explained that this particular shoe was found in an urban area during underground construction work. It serves as a reminder of the farmers who once used wooden shoes during their work, but its discovery in an urban area suggests that such shoes were commonly used in daily life at that time.
The shoe, measuring size 36, is believed to have been made in the late 15th or early 16th century.
