ISLAMABAD, August 11, 2026: On the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened the 13th meeting of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) to review the prevailing monsoon situation, preparedness measures and coordinated emergency response arrangements across the country.
The meeting was held at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC), NDMA Headquarters, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal, who participated through video link.
Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, Punjab Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique, Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, representatives of Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and senior officials from relevant federal ministries and departments attended the meeting.
The Committee reviewed the latest monsoon situation, hydrological conditions, weather outlook, preparedness arrangements and ongoing emergency response measures.
The National Emergencies Operations Centre presented a comprehensive situational briefing covering the latest weather forecasts, river flows, vulnerable locations and potential impacts associated with the ongoing monsoon spell.
Provincial authorities briefed the Committee on their preparedness arrangements, including the availability of rescue resources, emergency stocks, evacuation plans and coordination mechanisms with district administrations.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on maintaining uninterrupted communication, ensuring timely dissemination of early warnings and pre-positioning relief resources in vulnerable areas.
The Committee also reviewed the operational readiness of emergency response agencies and stressed the need to maintain adequate resources in districts at risk from flooding and other monsoon-related hazards.
Chairing the meeting, Professor Ahsan Iqbal emphasised the importance of close coordination among federal and provincial institutions and directed all relevant departments and response agencies to ensure timely implementation of preparedness and response measures.
The Committee stressed that proactive action at the district level was essential to minimise risks and protect vulnerable communities during the ongoing monsoon season.
The ERC reaffirmed its focus on coordinated preparedness, early warning dissemination and timely emergency response to minimise the potential impact of monsoon-related hazards across Pakistan.
