Islamabad: The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) hosted the third session of the Steering Committee on Prime Minister’s directives for the empowerment of women in Pakistan. The session was chaired by Director General, Ministry of Human Rights, Muhammad Arshad.
Secretary, Ministry of Human Rights, Allah Dino Khawaja, emphasized the need for speedy actions and responses from all stakeholders and partners, highlighting the Prime Minister’s keen interest in empowering women across Pakistan.
The committee discussed key initiatives, including:
- Establishment of 500 day care centers, with a proposed budget of Rs. 1.5 billion (Rs. 4.5 million per center).
- Creation of a “Working Women Endowment Fund” with a budget of Rs. 2 billion, to support women’s economic empowerment.
- Disbursement of Rs. 500 million through NGOs and public sector organizations, to support projects focused on women’s education, health, economic, political empowerment, legal assistance, and disaster relief.
Deputy Chief Admin, NCSW, Shabana Nawaz, presented responses from provincial governments and assured incorporation of their recommendations.
The session aimed to strategize efforts, ensure effective utilization of funds, and empower women across Pakistan through legislation, economic empowerment, and equality.
