Pakistani actress Maria Wasti stated that the slogan “My Body, My Choice” has been unnecessarily made controversial. She emphasized that it simply represents the desire for autonomy, freedom, and control over one’s own thoughts and decisions. Speaking in a recent podcast, she discussed various topics, including women’s rights and children’s rights.
Maria explained that the slogan’s focus is wrongly placed on the word “body,” which she believes is unjustified. She pointed out that despite women making up 55% of Pakistan’s population, they continue to fight for their rights as a minority. The slogan calls for the right to control one’s own body and decisions, not the ownership of the body itself, she added.
She compared it to how people claim ownership of other body parts, like kidneys or eyes, without objection, and argued that there should be no objection to the “My Body, My Choice” slogan. Maria further stated that women are raising this slogan because they are not given their rights, and often, they are not even allowed to discuss these issues.
She also emphasized that in society, even children are not allowed to question things, and their questions are often dismissed with “just do what you’re told.” Maria’s podcast clips are going viral on social media, where fans and users are sharing their reactions.
