ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Tuesday started consultations to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent organizations to form a coalition government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), while Muttahida Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) welcomed alliance with PTI.
Earlier in the day, PTI had announced government formation at the center and in Punjab with the support of MWM and in K-P with JI. Qaisar Sharif, JI’s central information secretary, confirmed that the two sides were engaged in discussions shortly after the elections.
Sharif said PTI’s proposal for a coalition government in K-P was the subject of discussion during a meeting in Islamabad. However, he clarified that he has not yet given a definitive answer to JI. “Consultations are on and a reply to PTI will be delivered in due course,” he said.
Separately, MWM chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas expressed wholehearted enthusiasm for his party’s alliance with the PTI. He reaffirmed his party’s unwavering support for Imran since the events of the “regime change” in April 2022, pledging allegiance “to the last drop of our blood”.
“We promote unity in Pakistan and strive to witness progress in our country,” he told a private news channel. No ulterior motives or demands were made on PTI, he said, adding that the events surrounding PTI were unfair.
Abbas expressed regret over the recent laws which he claimed were aimed at suppressing the PTI and condemned the promotion of certain political parties through an agenda in a democratic culture. “I hope common sense will prevail now,” he said.
“We have told Imran that we stand by his principles to the last drop of our blood,” he said. In a separate statement, he emphasized that MWM belonged to Imran, saying, “He [Imran] can decide what he wants about this party and we will accept it unconditionally and willingly.”
