ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has urged citizens to exercise extreme caution while travelling as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread heavy rainfall and strong windstorms across most parts of the country on July 7 and 8.
According to the NHMP, motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period due to the heightened risk of hazardous road conditions. Heavy rainfall is expected to make motorways and national highways slippery, reduce visibility, and increase the likelihood of traffic accidents.
The Motorway Police has instructed drivers to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and keep their headlights on to improve visibility during adverse weather conditions. Authorities also warned motorists against using mobile phones while driving, urging them to remain fully focused on the road.
Travellers heading to northern and mountainous regions have been advised to remain particularly vigilant, as heavy rains could trigger landslides and falling rocks along hilly routes. Authorities recommended checking the latest weather forecasts and road conditions before beginning any journey.
The NHMP further cautioned that seasonal streams and rainwater channels may experience flash flooding. Citizens have been strongly advised not to attempt crossing flooded roads or flowing water under any circumstances, warning that doing so could be life-threatening.
Road users are encouraged to stay updated on motorway and highway conditions before travelling. For travel assistance, emergency support, or road information, citizens can contact the Motorway Police Helpline 130 or follow the NHMP’s official social media platforms for real-time updates.
