As light to heavy rain and thundershowers swept across Punjab, including its capital Lahore, early Saturday morning, the Met Department has predicted more rain and strong winds in the province today.
In this regard, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has instructed the administration to remain alert and proactive in dealing with adverse weather conditions.
Scattered thunderstorms persisted throughout the night in various parts of Lahore, while the temperature today is likely to be 26 degrees Celsius due to persistent wind chill.
Reports indicate that light rain was observed in various areas of Lahore including Shahdara Town, Ravi Road, and Karim Park. Additionally, areas like Gulberg, Model Town, Garden Town, and Kalma Chowk experienced thunderstorms, adding to the city’s pleasant weather. Mall Road, Canal Road, Johar Town, and Township were also affected by the rain.
Meanwhile, in Hafizabad, the weather turned pleasant due to rain and wind. However, concerns have been raised about potential damage to the wheat crop as heavy rainfall continues. The city also faced power cuts, which posed problems for residents during the Sehr.
Similar weather was observed in other cities across Punjab. In Gujrat, the storm caused power cuts due to strong winds. Lalamusa, Kharian, and surrounding areas experienced rain while in Kasur, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms caused power cuts in many areas despite the pleasant weather it brought.
In Shorkot, heavy rain and hail lashed the city and its surroundings, raising fears of possible damage to the wheat crop. Similarly, rain accompanied by thundershowers was reported in Shakargarh, Kartarpur, Noorkot, Dipalpur, Wazirabad, Daska, and surrounding areas.
Due to the unpredictable weather conditions prevailing in Punjab, authorities and citizens remain on high alert and are taking necessary measures to mitigate any damage or disruption caused by the continued rain and thunderstorms.
