The ongoing spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue in Punjab till July 25, a spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said.
He further said that the rains are expected to bring relief from the prevailing heat and humidity, offering residents much-needed respite.
A PDMA spokesperson confirmed that most districts in the province are likely to experience rain in the coming days.
In light of the weather forecast, PDMA DG Irfan Kathia urged the administrations of major cities to remain vigilant and ensure full advance preparations.
The warning highlights the need for preparedness to manage the potential impacts of monsoon rains, particularly in urban areas where infrastructure and public safety could be at risk.
The directorate general warned that storms accompanying the monsoon rains could pose a threat to infrastructure, including electricity poles and solar panels.
“The storm may damage electric poles and solar panels,” Kathia said, adding that an official notice has been issued to the relevant administrations to be ready to deal with any emergency that may occur due to the heavy rains.
On Tuesday morning, Lahore experienced heavy rains in various areas, leading to localized flooding. Gulshan-e-Ravi recorded the highest rainfall with 45 mm. Other areas like Gulberg, Lakshmi Chowk, Tajpura and Mughalpura also reported significant rainfall.
Gujrat, on the other hand, faced serious problems as major highways and streets were under water after an hour of rain and water entered houses. Absence of district administration and failure of flood camps made the situation worse.
In Pindi Bhattian, heavy rain led to water accumulation in low-lying areas and power cuts. Jhelum experienced similar problems of power interruption due to feeder failure and flooding in low-lying areas like Bilal Town, Muhammadi Chowk and Civil Line Road. However, the weather turned pleasant with showers in and around Jhelum.
Wazirabad and its adjoining areas experienced heavy rain with thunder, tripping several feeders and leading to widespread power outages. Sialkot also reported occasional rain, resulting in pleasant weather conditions.
According to the Met Office, more rain is expected in Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Khushab, Sheikhupura and Sahiwal.
