The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert to the concerned departments for possible flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, along with thunderstorms and rain expected in areas of southern Sindh.
The warning comes at a time when monsoon rains from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to hit various parts of the country.
These rains are expected to start affecting various areas during the next 24 hours and are likely to continue till July 27.
The NDMA alert applies to several regions across Pakistan:
South Sindh: Coastal areas including Karachi, Hyderabad, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal and Islamkot divisions are expected to experience wind storm and rain from tonight.
South Punjab: Heavy rain is expected in areas like Rohi and Rahim Yar Khan.
Upper and Central Punjab: Including the Potohar region.
Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: These areas are also on alert for heavy rains.
The NDMA has warned of possible flooding in various urban areas due to heavy rains. In addition, river flooding is a major problem and there is a high risk of landslides in hilly areas.
