Former Pakistani cricketer and wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan has expressed his frustration over the growing friendly relations between Pakistani players and their Indian counterparts.
Moin Khan appeared on a show hosted by popular actress and host Ushna Shah, where he raised concerns about the current trend of Pakistani cricketers being overly friendly with Indian players during matches.
Host Ushna Shah pointed out that in the past, Pakistani cricketers received much affection from across the border, but now, whether it’s in cricket or showbiz, things seem different. She asked why Pakistani players are taking pictures with Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli.
Moin Khan responded by expressing his disappointment, saying, “It hurts to see our players laughing and joking with them. I have mutual respect for all players, but there was a time when our team was far ahead of India. Today, they are leading, and the margin we once created is still being carried forward by them.”
He acknowledged that although there have always been good relations with Indian cricketers, it has never been the norm for Pakistani players to check their opponents’ bats or take selfies with them on the field. He emphasized that such actions send a negative message and undermine Pakistan’s position mentally.
Moin Khan added, “When you engage in such behavior, the opposition grows stronger, and mentally, you start falling behind.”
He also mentioned that during his tenure, he always advised players to avoid such behavior. Even Wasim Akram has been upset with players’ conduct in recent times. Moin noted that cricketers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar never engaged in such behavior with Indian cricketers, including taking selfies or checking their bats.
