In a significant development, efforts to enhance landline internet speeds across Pakistan are nearing completion. A state-of-the-art internet cable is set to be connected in the coming days, with the installation process in its final stages. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials have confirmed the connection of the Africa-2 cable.
The project involves a 45,000-kilometer-long internet cable with a capacity of 180 terabits per second. This advanced infrastructure is expected to significantly boost internet speeds, particularly on social media apps and other online platforms.
The new cable will provide faster and more stable connectivity to internet users, fostering digital progress in the country. The initiative is part of a larger project linking 46 cable landing stations across Europe, Africa, and Asia. This cable is a project of Meta (formerly Facebook), with Pakistan playing a key role in its implementation.
