KUNAR, AFGHANISTAN: Muslim Hands Afghanistan has distributed 100 dairy and breeding goats to 50 earthquake-affected families in Suki and Nurgal districts to help them rebuild their livelihoods and sources of income.
The initiative, carried out on September 15, 2026, follows last year’s devastating earthquake in Kunar, which affected families and disrupted local livelihoods.
The livestock support is designed to provide households with practical and sustainable income opportunities. The goats can provide nutritious milk for families while also creating opportunities to earn income through dairy production and animal breeding.
Along with the goats, participating families received animal feed, veterinary assistance and practical training. The training covered animal care, disease prevention, milk hygiene and dairy sales to help families manage their livestock more effectively.
By combining livestock support with training and veterinary services, the initiative aims to strengthen household resilience and help affected families develop more secure sources of income.
Supporting productive livelihoods can also help communities recover from disasters while building greater self-reliance and resilience to future economic and environmental challenges.
The initiative highlights how livelihood recovery and climate resilience can work together to support stronger and more sustainable rural communities.
