Tragedy struck Balochistan’s Harnai district when a mine collapsed after an explosion, leaving eighteen miners trapped underground.
Rescue work was immediately started to free the trapped miners from the dangerous depths.
The Chief Inspector of Mines Balochistan, Abdul Ghani, revealed that the mine collapse occurred in the Zard Alu area of Harnai, where ten miners were initially trapped due to gas build-up.
Currently, 18 miners remain trapped in the mine, which has led to the dispatch of two rescue teams from Shahrigh and Quetta to assist in the rescue mission. Despite concerted efforts, the trapped miners have yet to be evacuated.
The incident sheds light on the precarious working conditions prevailing in Balochistan’s coal mines, where approximately 100,000 workers work under inadequate safety measures.
With more than 3,000 coal mines in operation, miners constantly face life-threatening risks. Unfortunately, these accidents claim the lives of more than 100 miners each year, underscoring the urgent need for increased safety protocols and vigilance in the mining sector.
