Amazon said on Monday it would create more than 3,000 permanent jobs in France and invest more than 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion) in its French economic operations, Reuters reported.
According to a company statement, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is investing in physical infrastructure in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region and cloud infrastructure in the Paris region to serve the growing AI market in France.
The growing adoption of GenAI has increased the need for cloud services, and France has emerged as an AI leader, home to successful firms such as Mistral and Poolside. AI research centers have been established in the country by corporations such as Meta and Google.
More than 22,000 full-time workers are employed by Amazon in its cloud and online retail divisions, and the company has invested more than 20 billion euros in its French operations since 2010.
Part of the investment will go towards developing a logistics system to reduce carbon emissions and speed up delivery. It operates around 35 logistics facilities in France.
The notification date has not been announced, but is open to change.
Similarly, world technology and software leader Microsoft announced to Le Figaro that it will invest 4 billion euros ($4.3 billion) in France as part of its annual business summit “Choose France”. Brad Smith is vice president and president of Microsoft.
