Doctors suspect that the loud sound of DJ music was the cause of the brain haemorrhage that occurred in a 40-year-old man from Balrampur area of Surguja division. Medical experts were taken aback by this particular case because the patient, Sanjay Jaiswal, had no history of hypertension, illness or trauma. Jaiswal experienced sudden dizziness two days ago while packing his things in his car for DJ. At first he tried to throw it away and went home.
But later in the night while preparing dinner, he started vomiting and also had an excruciating headache, according to TOI. According to Dr Shailendra Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of ENT, Government Medical College Ambikapur, who spoke to TOI, the patient reached the hospital the next morning in a wheelchair. A CT scan revealed a blood clot in his brain; it was most likely the result of a ruptured blood vessel.
These kinds of incidents are usually associated with hypertension, traffic accidents or injuries, none of which are related to Jaiswal. “The patient was initially reluctant to share the truth, perhaps because of his association with the DJ. He broke down when we insisted he tell us what happened and finally admitted he was working near the DJ when the loud music made him dizzy.
His condition worsened later in the night,” said Dr Gupta. In addition, he said, loud noises can occasionally lead to bleeding in the brain, especially in those with weaker occipital regions at the back of the head. He said Jaiswal’s blood pressure was normal and no signs of previous health problems were found.
The state government was criticized by the Chhattisgarh High Court last year for not regulating noise. The government was ordered by the court to provide an affidavit describing the measures taken to address the problem targeting DJs and amplifiers. As a result, the chief secretary called a meeting with the police and district collectors to demand that anyone who does not comply with the noise ordinance should face severe consequences.
