LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan has been elected Speaker of the Punjab Assembly during its second session presided over by outgoing Speaker Sibtain Khan.
However, the atmosphere was marred by tension as members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) engaged in heated exchanges and exchanged slogans during the proceedings.

He was elected as the new Speaker of the Punjab Assembly after getting 224 votes.
During the polling, Ahmad Khan Bhachar, a candidate from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), got 96 votes out of a total of 322 ballots cast. However, two votes were rejected in the process.
