Two Malaysian navy helicopters collided in mid-air during a naval parade exercise, killing all 10 crew members.
The incident happened at 9:32 am on Tuesday at Lumut Naval Base in the western state of Perak.
The Navy immediately confirmed the death and transferred the victim to the Lumut Naval Base Military Hospital for identification.
Footage released by local media recorded the moment of the collision, showing the helicopter flying before one rotor clipped the other, causing the catastrophic crash. Local authorities have verified the authenticity of the video.
In response to the accident, the Navy announced plans to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause.
Defense Minister Mohamad Khalid Nordin said two aircraft, a naval operational helicopter and a Fennec fighter jet, will join the Royal Malaysian Navy’s 90th anniversary celebrations scheduled for Saturday.
Muhammed Khalid told reporters that work was underway to confirm the identities of all the dead crew members, who were under 40 years old.
