PESHAWAR, September 7, 2026: A consultative and validation workshop was organized in Union Council Peer Khana under the Integrated Climate Risk Management (ICRM) Project, with the support of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), to facilitate the preparation of a Local Climate Change Adaptation Plan (LCCAP).
The workshop, organized by Muslim Hands, focused on strengthening community-led approaches to climate change adaptation and identifying practical measures to address climate-related risks at the local level.
Participants used various Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools and activities to identify key climate and disaster risks, their underlying causes and impacts, as well as possible prevention and adaptation measures.
The participants also discussed responsibilities, required support and resources, and timelines needed to implement the proposed adaptation measures effectively.
A total of 38 community representatives, including 28 men and 10 women from four Village Council Committees, participated in the workshop through separate sessions.
Representatives and teams from the World Food Programme (WFP) and Muslim Hands, along with Union Council Secretaries, also attended the workshop and contributed to the consultation process.
The initiative aims to ensure that local communities are directly involved in identifying climate risks and developing solutions that reflect their specific needs and local realities.
Community-based climate adaptation is increasingly important as vulnerable communities face growing risks from extreme weather events, changing climatic patterns and environmental degradation. Locally developed adaptation plans can help communities better prepare for these risks while strengthening resilience and protecting livelihoods.
The consultation and validation process will contribute to the development of an LCCAP for Union Council Peer Khana, providing a framework for locally appropriate climate adaptation actions and coordinated implementation.
Local knowledge. Collective action. Stronger climate resilience.
