The Lahore High Court has taken a significant step to address environmental and public health concerns by banning vehicles that emit smog.
This decision was made at a hearing on a smoke removal application. In the hearing, Justice Shaheed Karim directed for immediate action against vehicles that emit smoke. The court directed the traffic police to take strict action against such vehicles and report the violation immediately to the authorities concerned.
In addition, the highway police have been ordered to put out the fire and strengthen the control of fire incidents around the highway. “There are many fires around the highway that need to be controlled,” Court said.
The court ordered the Inspector General (IG) of Highways to ensure compliance with the order, which may ignore the court’s action.
In a related development, the Punjab State Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) released a detailed report on heat stroke, highlighting the efforts being made to mitigate the effects of extreme heat.
According to reports, a heat stroke awareness campaign has been launched to educate the public about preventive measures.
In addition, PDMA announced that 20 water tankers, each containing 12,500 liters of water, have been dispatched to Cholistan to provide assistance to residents affected by water shortage.
The hearing, presided over by Judge Shaheed Karim, was held on the petition of residents Haroon Farooq and others. The discussion is scheduled for next Friday.
