Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakraborty said bowlers should adapt to the impact rules in the Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of lamenting over factors beyond their control.
This rule, implemented last season, allows teams to replace players from the starting 11 at any time during a match. It has played a key role in scoring runs this season as the team releases their players early in the round, confident that they can bring in extra firepower if needed.
“The impact player rule was there last year, but we did not witness such high scores,” said Chakravarty. Among the teams this season, he points to a strategy that allows them to approach the round with aggression from the start, taking advantage of their impact players. Despite the protest from the bowlers, Chakraborty said the situation could be fought, “We have to accept the challenge. Ounder standards and rules remain the same.”
Recently bowled by Delhi Capitals, Chakraborty, Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs and all-rounder Kumar Kushagra took three crucial wickets to restrict Delhi to 153-9 in 20 overs. Phil Salt’s explosive 68 off 33 balls sealed a comfortable 21-wicket win and cemented their place in the play-off race.
With six wins from nine matches, Kolkata Knight Riders are currently second in the table and are gearing up to face Mumbai Indians on Friday.
