Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to strengthen domestic cricket in the country.
A three-hour long meeting, chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, was held in the boardroom of the National Cricket Academy. In this meeting, decisions were made to strengthen the domestic cricket system, and the chairman also gave principled approval to the plan to promote quality domestic cricket.
Recommendations and suggestions for the promotion of quality domestic cricket were considered during the meeting. It was decided that players would need to participate in domestic cricket to be eligible for selection in the national team, and a decision was made to review domestic contracts.
In the meeting, it was also decided to improve the standard of coaching for domestic cricket, and in this regard, a master coach will be appointed to train domestic cricket coaches.
The PCB chairman stated that quality domestic cricket will be promoted at every level, and tournaments will be organized consistently from the club level to the national level.
Mohsin Naqvi said that the best coaches will train new talent and enhance their skills, and player selection will be based on performance, fitness, and merit without any compromise.
He further stated that urgent efforts are needed to bring new talent to the forefront. Investing in new talent will promote cricket at the grassroots level, and the promotion of quality domestic cricket will help bridge the gap with international cricket.
In the meeting, the structures of domestic cricket in India, Australia, England, and New Zealand were also reviewed. On the directions of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, it was decided to organize tournaments for all three formats to promote quality domestic cricket.
