Israeli Defense Minister Avow Gallant said on Sunday that Tehran is ready to counter any incident involving Iran following the threat against the assassination of an Iranian general on April 1.
Following Tehran’s retaliation, which included warnings about Israeli embassy security, Gallant held a comprehensive “operational situation assessment” with senior military officials. After the assessment, Gallant’s office issued a statement indicating that Israel is prepared for various scenarios against Iran.
Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi echoed Galant’s sentiments, stressing Israel’s ability to counter the Iranian threat both offensively and defensively. “We know how to act intently against Iran, near and far. We work together with the United States and our strategic partners in the region,” Halevi said in a televised speech.
Tensions rose last week after an Israeli operation in Damascus killed seven members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, including a top commander. Iranian officials, including senior adviser Yahya Rahim Safavi, say no Israeli embassy is safe and insist on Iran’s right to confront Israel.
Although Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement in the Damascus attack, its leaders have said they want to counter Iran’s influence, particularly its support for militant groups such as Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The United States, along with Israel, are preparing for a possible attack on Iranian assets in the region. The state of alert is said to stem from historical tensions, including Iran’s involvement in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people.
As diplomatic tensions continue, Israel prepares to counter the threat from Iran, focusing on the changing geopolitical situation in the region.
