ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Water has launched an emergency drainage operation in G-12 and D-12 following heavy rainfall that caused water accumulation and disrupted normal conditions in several low-lying areas of the federal capital.
Soon after the rain on Tuesday morning, the Director General Islamabad Water, accompanied by senior officers and field staff, visited the affected areas and personally reviewed arrangements for the drainage of accumulated rainwater.
Heavy-duty dewatering pumps have been deployed at low-lying locations and affected roads, with continuous pumping operations underway to clear standing water.
Emergency cleaning of sewerage chambers and drainage infrastructure is also being carried out at D-12 Markaz and affected streets to restore the flow of water and improve drainage capacity.
The Director General is personally supervising the field operation and remains present in the affected areas alongside the staff to ensure that drainage work is completed without delay.
Officials said the City Sewerage staff under Islamabad Water have been placed on high alert and are carrying out drainage and related emergency operations at all affected locations.
According to the department’s spokesperson, field teams will remain deployed until rainwater is completely cleared from all affected streets and major roads.
The emergency response highlights the importance of maintaining and strengthening Islamabad’s urban drainage infrastructure to reduce the risk of waterlogging and urban flooding during intense monsoon rainfall.
