Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh called on Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to strengthen ties between the Palestinian militant group and the Islamic Republic during a high-profile visit to Tehran.
During the meeting, Supreme Leader Khamenei reiterated Iran’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and pledged continued support for the people of Gaza and Palestine.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to support the cause of Palestine and the oppressed and resistant people of Gaza,” Khamenei added.
The pledge comes amid heightened tensions following a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict between Hamas and Israel.
Haniyeh’s visit marks his second trip to Iran since the conflict with Israel broke out, further highlighting the strategic partnership between the two entities. The timing of the visit, along with Iran’s vocal support for Hamas, signals Tehran’s firm support for the Palestinian resistance to Israeli occupation.

In a joint press conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Haniyeh highlighted Hamas’ transition to a new phase of confrontation with Israel, calling their attacks “the Al-Aqsa storm.” This rhetoric underscores Hamas’ determination to continue resisting Israeli aggression.
Haniyeh acknowledged Iran’s key role in supporting Hamas and expressed gratitude to Iran’s leadership and people for their steadfast support. He also alluded to previous financial aid provided by Iran, suggesting Tehran’s significant contribution to Hamas’ military capabilities.
Despite Hamas rejecting a recent US-brokered compromise on the release of hostages and a ceasefire, Israel has condemned Hamas’ rejection as evidence of its lack of commitment to peace talks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced the withdrawal of Israel’s negotiating team from Qatar, signaling a breakdown in talks and deepening of the conflict.
