IOM Pakistan Workshop Highlights Women’s Resilience in Climate Change Storytelling

ISLAMABAD: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Pakistan has organised a two-day capacity-building workshop in Islamabad to promote gender-sensitive climate storytelling and strengthen strategic communication on climate change.

The workshop brought together government representatives, humanitarian partners, youth leaders, journalists and digital influencers to explore ways to make climate policies easier to understand through compelling, people-centred stories.

Aligned with Pakistan’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) NAP Communications Strategy, the initiative focused on turning complex climate policies into stories that reflect the real experiences of communities affected by climate change.

Discussions highlighted the resilience of women and the important role local communities play in adapting to climate risks. The workshop also emphasised the need to ensure that women’s experiences, community-led solutions and local knowledge receive greater attention in climate communication.

Clear and inclusive climate storytelling can help connect policies with people’s everyday lives, improve public understanding and encourage communities to take part in adaptation efforts. Women and vulnerable communities often face specific challenges from climate-related disasters and environmental changes, making their experiences important to discussions on climate resilience.

IOM Pakistan said the initiative would continue in other cities across the country, creating more opportunities to bring local voices and stories of resilience into climate action.

The campaign is encouraging people to share stories about resilience, local initiatives and climate adaptation under the hashtag #ClimateStoriesMatter, helping bring community experiences to the forefront of public discussion.

As Pakistan faces growing climate challenges, inclusive communication can help strengthen public awareness and highlight practical solutions being developed by communities themselves.
