ISLAMABAD: Speakers at a one-day international conference on ‘Role of Media in Enhancing Global Connectivity through the Belt and Road Initiative’ held here explored the impact of media in raising global awareness of contemporary challenges and paving the way for a more connected and mutually beneficial relationships for future generations. The conference on Thursday was jointly organized by China Media Group (Islamabad Studio), Department of Arts and Media, Foundation University, Islamabad (FUI) and Pakistan Research Center for Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), Islamabad.
The conference aimed to introduce the core values of Chinese journalism, explore their impact on reporting standards and public discourse, and explore the proactive role of Chinese media in promoting Chinese culture to increase global awareness and understanding of the complex nuances of Chinese cultures. Chinese media have been actively highlighting how the BRI promotes trade, attracts investment and expands the markets of participating countries. Head of Bureau, China Media Group (Islamabad Studio), Islamabad Office, Ms. Jianing Du, delivered a speech on “China-Pakistan Cooperation to Support CPEC Development: Establishing CMG Communication Practice in Pakistan”.
She introduced the work of China Media Group at its inception, and her work carries out regular programs and video production. She discussed how to promote and strengthen media cooperation between China and Pakistan. Dr. Wanchu Zhong delivered a speech on Initiatives Taken to Achieve Global Community Building within the Greater Eurasian Region, Distinguished Researcher at the Institute for a Community with a Shared Future (ICSF), Communication University of China (CUC), Beijing, China. She highlighted the intercontinental cooperation framework and the infrastructure development project and recommended regional cooperation in solving global problems such as climate change. Former Federal Secretary for Information, Mr. Ashfaq Gondal, delivered a speech on an analysis of the geopolitical impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on participating countries and the wider international community.
He emphasized China’s role in promoting good neighborly policy and peaceful development with neighbors and the world. He discussed the overall progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and how China-Pakistan is contributing positively to peace, progress and development. Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) Executive Director, Asim Khichi, delivered a speech on “Role of Media of Pakistan in Regional Connectivity through CPEC”. He highlighted the great role of the media in facilitating dialogue and understanding between China and Pakistan, as well as the diplomatic efforts that member states should make for the entire BRI. By enabling the rapid exchange of information, the media create a hospitable environment in which neighboring countries combine their efforts to solve problems. “The role of Pakistani media in the current CPEC is as important as ever. As we create the next phase of this transformation plan, the media should take a strong lead to inform, engage and empower the population,” he stressed.
Earlier in his opening remarks Chancellor/Vice-Chancellor Foundation University, Islamabad, Brig. (R) Dr. Abdul Ghafoor emphasized the role of Chinese media in promoting positivity, maturity and constructive reality. He highlighted the establishment of a regional media connectivity center to carry out various joint projects, including conferences, training and educational exchange programs, to achieve shared aspirations. Executive Director (ED) of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future (PRCCSF), Khalid Taimur Akram, delivered a speech on “Understanding the Different Aspects of the Belt and Road Initiative in the International Landscape”. He said China’s willingness to cooperate with all parties demonstrates its determination to achieve a prosperous and interconnected future around the world.
“China is striving to promote an environment conducive to sustainable development and mutual prosperity,” he said. Speaking about the prospects of regional countries to enhance connectivity and promote regional trade, he said: “Trade cooperation between China and many countries is helping to move towards a fairer and interconnected global system that ensures stability, prosperity and mutual benefit. regions.” Head of the FUI Department of Art and Media, Dr. Hina Shahid, in her speech on the role of media in constructing reality, discussed the role of media in framing reality. She noted, “It is important to recognize that the media’s role in creating reality is not inherently negative.”
She emphasized: “Chinese media play a key role in generating public support and enthusiasm for Road and Belt Initiative projects by raising awareness and disseminating correct information. David Haruna Mrisho, Head of Department of Public Relations and Marketing, University of St. Augustine, Tanzania, spoke on Connectivity and Integration Across Continents: Understanding the Initiatives and Facilitation Delivered by the BRI. He said: “BRI is turning dreams into reality for a better future. He emphasized the political coordination involved in creating a continental connection. All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) General Secretary Sarmad Ali delivered a speech on “Conceptualizing the Belt and Road Initiatives through a Pakistani Lens”.
He noted: “Media cooperation plays a vital role in promoting communication and coordination, which is significant for promoting China’s positive image and global development cooperation. “As we strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of Pakistan and China, media cooperation has the potential to pave the way for a more connected and mutually beneficial relationship for generations to come,” SG said.
Chairman, Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE), Shahid Mehmood Khokhar, Chairman, Expert Council, PRCCSF, and Ovais Ali Khokhar, Head, Department of Social Sciences, Bahria University, Islamabad, Dr. also spoke on the occasion.
