Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated the 49th International Nathiagali Summer College (INSC) on Physics and Modern Needs, a milestone in the government’s efforts to promote excellence in emerging technologies.
The summer lecture, which aims to promote and share scientific knowledge among the scientific community, has been organized by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Council (PAEC) every year since 1976.
The Minister of Planning said that the International Nathiagali Summer College has established a tradition of encouraging scientific activities, especially in the field of Physics, which is called “the basis of modern science”.
Recognizing the transformative power of quantum science, he said the government has taken proactive steps to support the development of quantum technology in Pakistan.
In addition, through strategic partnerships with leading research institutes, universities and industry stakeholders; the government invests in quantum research and innovation initiatives.
The minister said these projects are aimed at harnessing Pakistan’s scientific expertise and technological capabilities to develop the frontiers of quantum science, computing and engineering.
The minister said that the government has taken active steps to support the development of quantum technology in Pakistan. As a first step in this direction, the minister announced that he will open the National Center for Quantum Computing this year.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government is investing in human capital development in quantum science and technology through scholarships, programmer training and capacity building initiatives.
He praised the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for playing an effective role in the development of the medical, agricultural and energy sectors.
The minister said that he implemented several policies for a strong economy and a mission to steer the country on the path of growth and prosperity.
