According to the data provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the rate of inflation decreased significantly in May and the number decreased to 3.24%.
Inflation fell to 11.76% in May, a significant increase compared to previous months. The average rate of inflation from July 2023 to May 2024 is 24.52%, the bureau reported.
The report also highlighted the variation in the rate of inflation between urban and rural areas, with a decline of 2.80% in urban areas and 3.89% in rural areas.
Several key commodities witnessed price volatility, with tomatoes and onions falling by 51% in the city last month. The price of live chicken and wheat also decreased by 35.28% and 20.17% respectively. Wheat flour decreased by 20.12%, fruits and vegetables by 8%.
However, the prices of some products increased by 14.73% for potatoes, 4% for meat, 1.27% for cooking oil, and 1.26% for dental services. The prices of beverages and dry fruits rose by 24% and 23% respectively in the last year.
The report said the price of transportation and medical facilities rose by 3.3% and the price of eggs by 2%. Compared to April, dental services increased by 15% and doctor fees by 5%.
The report also revealed that various essential items like daal puree, sugar, milk powder, sweets and daal masoor have increased in price by 22%, 19%, 22%, 16%, 15% respectively compared to last year.
In addition, costs related to bread products, gas, electricity and transportation have increased significantly in the past year, with gas prices increasing by 318%, electricity by 59%, and transportation by 32%.
