An Indian citizen has been fraudulently collecting money from a government scheme for married women under the name of Bollywood actress Sunny Leone.
According to Indian media reports, the name of Sunny Leone appeared in a government financial assistance scheme for women in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. The district administration became aware of the misuse of her name after receiving a complaint.
The report states that in the government scheme, Sunny Leone was listed as the wife of Joni Sons, and a local citizen exploited this by collecting money through fraudulent means.
Under the scheme, each woman receives a monthly transfer of 1,000 Indian rupees into their accounts. It was discovered that an account opened in Sunny Leone’s name had received funds from March to December this year.
The citizen who submitted documents in the actress’s name has been identified as Virender Joshi. The district collector has instructed authorities to freeze the account, recover the money, and file a fraud case against those responsible.
