California: Meta’s subsidiary photo-sharing platform Instagram is working on a feature that will allow users to create AI friends to chat with.
Instagram’s announcement of such a feature suggests that Meta is working on a number of artificial intelligence features for its users that will allow them to chat.
The special purpose of this new feature is to alleviate people’s loneliness and using this feature people will be able to choose their AI friends and chat with them.
This new feature in the platform was pointed out by app researcher Alessandro Pelosi. However, the company has refused to comment on the matter.
The code that appears in reference to the feature says people will be able to determine the gender, age and nationality of their AI friend. Later the personality traits of these characters can be determined.
Finally, this friend will be given a name and a face and users will be able to talk to them through Instagram’s Direct Message feature.
It should be noted that such a feature will be introduced on Meta’s other platforms (such as WhatsApp). While other apps like Snapchat are also working on such features in which AI chatbots will be able to talk like normal friends.
