IHC bars DC Islamabad from going abroad

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday barred Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon from traveling abroad.

IHC judge Babar Sattar issued the orders while hearing a case related to the arrest of PTI leaders Sheharyar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar in September last year.

The court also refused an unconditional apology to the Islamabad DC for violating court orders after he failed to appear for a contempt of court hearing against him.

The court asked Memon to file his reply to the show-cause notice issued in the matter by Monday (February 26), while also barring him from traveling abroad.

“You issued 67 Public Order Orders (PPOs) for 970 days,” the judge noted, adding: “It was stupid of you. Now you will face the consequences.”

Justice Sattar also rejected his request to transfer the contempt of court case to another bench.

Justice Sattar said he would pronounce judgment on the case next week.

The IHC on Tuesday issued arrest warrants against Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon in a contempt case.

The Supreme Court ordered the IGPs of all the four provinces and Islamabad to arrest the deputy commissioner and produced him before the court.
