According to Indian media reports, a group of Hindu extremists attacked the Raza Jama masjid in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, India. The incident took place before the arrival of former Lok Sabha member Sambhaji Raje in the district.
The attackers reportedly burned the Koran and completely demolished the mosque. Nearby houses and shops were also damaged in the attack.

Sambhaji Raje’s supporters reportedly started pelting stones at the mosque and attacking local Muslims. Indian media sources say that over 40 Muslims were injured in the attack.
According to sources, more than 1,000 mosques and other holy places have been targeted since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
Local authorities have not yet reported any legal action taken against the attackers.
