The Met department has issued a flood warning in several areas of Pakistan due to heavy rains. Areas at risk include Azad Kashmir, Northeast Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Koh-e-Sulaiman and the adjoining hills of Balochistan.
The ministry also warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas of lower Sindh, southern Punjab, Peshawar and Karachi.
Rain with strong wind and thunder is expected in and around Islamabad while rainfall is also expected in regions like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mohmand, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan.
Other rain forecast areas include Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, DG Khan, Bhakkar, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Zhob, Shirani, Musakhel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Loralai, Sibbi, Harnai, Ziarat, Quetta, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Turbat, Panjgur, Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Ben Sukkur, Khairpur , Larkana, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro and Dadu.
Rain with strong winds and thunderstorms are also expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Lahore, the recent rains have caused a lot of humidity and the city is forecast to remain cloudy. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reported disruptions in its supply system in various areas, leading to power cuts lasting up to 48 hours in places like Sabzazar H Block.
Heavy rainfall in Lower Dir has led to flooding in the Maidan River at Balambat in Timergara. Swabi experienced intermittent rains with water seeping into houses in Sharifabad and rescue teams were working to retrieve water using pumps. In Kotha, the roof of a house collapsed due to rain and buried two cattle under the debris and rescue operations are on.
Chitral and Lower Dir faced severe flooding in several areas due to heavy rain including Reshun Valley and other streams of Upper Chitral. The floods caused extensive damage to residential houses, gardens and agricultural land and disrupted vehicular traffic. Similar floods were reported in the Koghuzi, Shishi Koh and Kalash Valley rivers in Lower Chitral, inundating low-lying areas.
Due to heavy rain in several places of upper and lower Chitral late night flood situation. Growing crops, houses and gardens were severely damaged.
In the Muzaffarabad, Neelum and Jhelum valleys, persistent rain created pleasant weather conditions but also caused road closures, especially on the highway connecting Muzaffarabad to Rawalpindi near Kohala. The Met department has forecast continued rain for the next day.
