Four soldiers, including an Israeli army officer, were shot dead in an attack by Hamas fighters in the West Bank town of Tulkarm.
The Al-Quds Brigade, according to foreign media, said the four dead Israeli soldiers were riding in a car. Israel also confirmed the death of one soldier and the wounding of seven others.
On the other hand, Hamas destroyed more Israeli tanks surrounding the al-Shafa compound, killing and wounding several Israeli soldiers.

Earlier, an Israeli died in Hamas custody due to lack of medicine and food. Hamas also released a video of the hostages.

Hamas representative talks about major gaps with Israel in cease-fire negotiations
There are deep differences between Hamas and Israel in Gaza truce negotiations, a Palestinian militant group official with knowledge of the talks told AFP on Saturday.
Troubled talks on a ceasefire and a possible hostage and prisoner swap resumed in Doha this week, with Israel’s spy chief joining Egyptian, Qatari and US mediators.
“There are deep differences in positions in the negotiations between Hamas and the occupation (Israel) because the enemy saw the flexibility the movement showed as weakness,” the official said.
The official added that “the enemy wants to achieve a temporary truce after which he can resume his aggression against our people.”
Israel “refuses to agree to a comprehensive ceasefire and refuses to fully withdraw its forces from Gaza,” the official said.
The official added that Israel has indicated it wants to keep aid, shelter and assistance matters under its control and demanded that “the UN not go back to work, especially in the northern Gaza Strip.”
Long-strained relations between Israel and the United Nations worsened as international outrage grew over the heavy civilian casualties and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Central to the talks was the return of hostages taken in the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel – but a Hamas official did not comment on the matter.
Palestinian militants took about 250 Israeli and foreign hostages in the attack, but dozens were released during a week-long ceasefire in November.
Israel believes about 130 people remain in Gaza, including 33 who are believed to be dead – eight soldiers and 25 civilians.
