GUJRAT: A major tree plantation event was held at Government Higher Secondary School Tanda, Gujrat, as part of the “Green and Clean Pakistan” plantation campaign launched by Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust Pakistan.
Hundreds of students participated in the event, where saplings were distributed among students and hundreds more were planted across the school’s spacious grounds.
Students receiving the saplings pledged to plant them in the courtyards of their homes, streets and neighbourhoods and to take responsibility for their watering and protection until they grow into mature trees.
The initiative aims to encourage young people to play a practical role in environmental protection and promote a culture of tree care and community-based plantation.
School Principal Muhammad Asif Javed, along with Mahmood Akbar Chaudhry, Muhammad Azhar Iqbal, Abdul Qadir Mustafaee, Haji Khalid Mahmood, Zafar Iqbal Noori, Qari Muhammad Asim and Imran Shabbir, attended the event. The participants also took part in plantation activities and offered prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
According to Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust Pakistan, its nationwide “Green and Clean Pakistan” plantation campaign will continue until September 15, with a target of planting thousands of trees across the country.
The campaign comes as Pakistan faces growing environmental challenges, including rising temperatures, air pollution, water stress and the impacts of climate change. Expanding green cover, particularly in urban and educational environments, can contribute to healthier communities and more climate-resilient local environments.
Environmental initiatives involving students can also help develop long-term awareness about the importance of protecting trees and maintaining green spaces. However, ensuring the survival and continued care of newly planted saplings remains equally important to achieving lasting environmental benefits.
The campaign’s message is simple: Plant trees, fulfil our responsibility and make Pakistan greener.
