ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain on Tuesday chaired a meeting with Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah to review fertilizer availability, pricing and supply across the country, with a focus on ensuring affordable fertilizers for farmers ahead of the upcoming crop season.
The meeting discussed measures to stabilize fertilizer prices through close coordination among the federal government, provincial governments and fertilizer manufacturers.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana Tanveer Hussain said the government was making every possible effort to ensure the uninterrupted availability of fertilizers at reasonable prices to facilitate farmers. He said consultations were underway with all provinces and relevant stakeholders to develop a coordinated strategy for maintaining price stability and strengthening the fertilizer supply chain.
The federal minister said he had urged fertilizer companies to reduce urea prices in the larger interest of farmers. He stressed that the country has sufficient urea stocks and categorically rejected reports suggesting any shortage of fertilizers.
“There is no shortage of fertilizers in Pakistan. Fertilizer manufacturing plants are operating normally, adequate quantities are available in the market, and there is no likelihood of any shortage in the coming months,” he said.
Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah reaffirmed the Punjab government’s full cooperation with the federal government, saying both sides would work together to ensure farmers receive timely access to fertilizers at affordable prices.
He said coordinated efforts between the federation and the provinces would help prevent market distortions, improve fertilizer distribution and safeguard the interests of farmers.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain close coordination with provincial governments and fertilizer manufacturers to ensure adequate availability, stable prices and an uninterrupted supply of fertilizers across the country, supporting agricultural productivity and strengthening national food security.
