Google’s ever-growing translation platform now supports more than 100 languages with the help of AI and LLM. Buluchi language is now included in the translation database.
A recent blog post on Google’s official website highlights the importance of Google Translate in increasing global connectivity, bridging language gaps and improving cross-cultural understanding. Popular platforms have increased accessibility by introducing modern technology.
In particular, Google Translate will add 24 more languages in 2022 thanks to the so-called Zero-Shot Machine Translation, which allows translation without the need for a previous version.
The recently announced “1000 Languages Initiative” demonstrates Google’s commitment to building an AI model that supports the world’s most common languages.
“We’re currently using AI to expand the diversity of languages we support,” the blog post said, noting that the platform has rolled out 110 additional languages, its largest expansion to date. About 8% of the world’s population, or more than 614 million speakers, will benefit from this development. Among the major languages and local languages spoken around the world, there are fewer native speakers, but revitalization efforts are active.
In particular, the African region includes 25% of new language additions, making Google Translate the largest language expansion in Africa to date. These diverse updates include languages such as Fon, Kikongo, Luo, Ga, Swati, Venda and Wolof, demonstrating Google’s commitment to tolerance and linguistic diversity.
From Afar, a tonal language spoken in Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia, to Cantonese, which has long been a popular choice for new languages, it spans a wide spectrum. In addition, the range of languages provided by Google Translate is further expanded with the addition of Manx, Nko, Punjabi (Shahmuhi), Tamazight (Amazigh) and Tok Pisin.
Google continues to work with linguists and native speakers to expand language variations and change spelling patterns as technology advances.
This update is compatible with the Google Translate app on iOS and Android, enabling easy language translation and cross-cultural communication anywhere.
