Google Messages to enable direct WhatsApp video calls

Google is working on an exciting new feature that will allow users of Google Messages to make direct WhatsApp video calls. According to reports from Android Authority, clues from the APK code indicate the feature is in development.

The feature will appear in the menu at the top right of the app while chatting with a friend or contact who also has WhatsApp. A new video icon will be visible, and tapping it will prompt you to initiate a WhatsApp video call. Users won’t need to leave Google Messages to make the call.

Initially, this feature will be available for one-on-one chats. For WhatsApp group chats or users without a WhatsApp account, the video call option will redirect to Google Meet. It’s still unclear how the video call functionality will be integrated, and it is not certain when the feature will officially roll out to all users, though it could take a few weeks or months.
