Google Gemini’s new feature will make AI usage much better on Android phones

Now, you can do quite a lot on your smartphone’s lock screen, and Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant Gemini will help you with that.

Google has updated Gemini, allowing Android users to access Gemini extensions and other AI features without unlocking their phones. To access the unlocked version of Gemini, you will need to say “Hey Google” or activate it in the settings.

Previously, you had to unlock the device to use Gemini. But now, with this new feature, you will be able to do your tasks without unlocking your phone.

However, you won’t be able to use Gemini to access personal information from other apps like calendars and emails; you will still need to unlock your phone for that.

Reports about this feature have been circulating for some time. A December 2024 report from 9to5Google mentioned that soon, users would be able to make calls or send text messages using Gemini without unlocking their phones.

The purpose of this update is to make daily tasks easier using Gemini without having to unlock the phone. Initially, this feature was introduced to a limited number of users but has now been enhanced through Gemini extensions.

It’s clear that Google is turning Android devices into a hub for Gemini features, aiming to make it better than other AI assistants.
